Temporary email explained

What is a disposable email address?

A temporary email address—also called temp mail, disposable email, burner email, or throwaway mail—is a working inbox designed to last for a short time. It receives messages like a regular inbox but does not require you to reveal your permanent address.

It is useful when a website requires email for a one-time action and you do not need an ongoing account relationship. Your address and messages are removed automatically after expiry.

Good uses

  • Testing your own website or application
  • Receiving a one-time download link
  • Trying a newsletter before subscribing permanently
  • Protecting your main inbox from promotional mail

Never use it for

  • Banking, payments, or government services
  • Medical or confidential information
  • Accounts you may need to recover later
  • Fraud, spam, impersonation, or bypassing bans

Common questions

Temporary email FAQ

How long does my temporary inbox last?

Your current inbox lasts for 10 minutes. The address and its messages are deleted after expiry.

Do I need to register?

No. A private address is generated automatically and its access token stays only in your browser.

Can I send emails?

No. temp-email.me is receive-only. This reduces spam and prevents the service from becoming an anonymous sending tool.

Can someone else open my inbox?

The inbox API requires a random secret stored in your browser. Still, temporary email should never be used for sensitive or valuable information.

Why did a website reject my address?

Some services block disposable-email domains. That decision is made by the other website and cannot be fixed by refreshing your inbox.

Are attachments supported?

No. Attachments are currently blocked to reduce malware risk, storage costs, and abuse.
